Success is always predicated on overcoming a number of challenges.

With the popularity of digital media, many customers use their mobile phones to search for information to help them with their pets. Over time, there may be a perception among some customers that there is no need to spend money having their pets examined and diagnosed. It seems to be an easy and economical way to cope with pet problems by the Internet. However, the latent danger by doing this is immeasurable, because the information released on the Internet may not be from the professionals in the pet field and the content released needs to be examined. Star Pet Club offers membership and regularly give customers discounts and surprises. We encourage our customers to seek professional veterinary advice for their pets and not to rely on the Internet information. We simply want to ensure that your pets’ problems can be resolved properly and safely, and we do not want to see lovely lives in danger.

The global epidemic of the new coronavirus is affecting our daily lives all the time. Australia has been on a two-year closure program. With the native population decreasing dramatically, it has been difficult to meet new people and we have been saying goodbye to old friends that we used to spend time with. Fortunately, Star Pet Club’s online counselling service has helped us to bridge the distance between our old and distant friends ,and the translation service has helped us to communicate with our new friends from different countries. In order to provide our customers with the best quality and the most convenient service, we are always online 24 hours a day to solve problems for new and existing customers (Figure 5).

Gamification and business

With the advent of gamification, people apply the design elements in games to business skillfully, which brings new vigor and vitality into many industries. According to Lucassen & Jansen (2014), the income from the gamification market had been expected to grow to $2.8 billion in 2016 due to the great success of applying the concept of gamification to the commercial marketing. Thus, in the series of commercial activity plannings, the abundant application of gamification has been put on the market. People’s consumer psychology has been stimulated and people’s consumption behavior has been motivated. However, does it have some negative impacts on consumers yet? In this blog post, I will elaborate both positive and negative aspects.

Brand marketing managers utilize the competitive emotion mechanism of gamification into business to increase the user engagement and loyalty in order to achieve their goals (Guang Shi et al, 2016). They usually start off by delivering the useful information to the consumers to arouse wide concern, which will inspire the consumers’ competition. For example, According to Flynn (2015), Nike is a world-famous sports brand company, will launch a new limited edition of Air Jordan sports shoes every year. Before the release of each pair of new shoes, the enterprise will frequently promote the new pictures with the brand spirit on various digital media. The quantity of sales will be published as well. There are only two ways to buy the new Jordan shoes. One is to buy them at the original price at the appointed time and places designated by the firm, which requires plenty time of queuing and drawing. Nevertheless, the customers often cannot buy the right size of the product. Meanwhile, the good will be not available. So that the other way is to buy them from someone else at a higher price. According to Kim & Werbach (2016), people are more confident to gain success in the game when they encounter more difficult levels, or when their partners’ score is higher than theirs. Nike makes the advantages of gamification to arouse the fighting will of the masses. The consumers have been encouraged to obtain the new sneakers  with huge time and cost by the competitive psychology . Since in people’s mind, Air Jordan has been not only a pair of newly released sneakers, but also the symbol of victory. Today, Nike has the sustainable growth in the amount of the consumers. Both the old and new, who are constantly paying attention to and purchasing the new products. People’s loyalty and retention of Nike have been increased greatly by the desire of the competition and winning consciousness.

In fact, with the widespread application of gamification in marketing, not only the large number of stable consumers, but also some disadvantages have been brought to the commercial bodies. For example, in the mid-1980s, Nike has teamed up with Michael Jordan to create the Air Jordan. The sneaker that represents the spirit of sports with a contemporary icon. Air Jordan has started out as a high-performance brand with the air cushioned heels and a lighter overall shoes. The products of Nike have been designed to its target market of athletes and the fitness crowd. However, Nike has increased the price significantly and has reduced the quantity of production in the early 2000, which led to the Jordan being labeled as a “luxury” by consumers (Flynn 2015). More wealthy consumers have been attracted by the situation, because they want to show their status. Whereas fewer athletes will choose Air Jordan due to the exorbitant price. They prefer to choose more affordable sneakers. In the long run, the Air Jordan launched by Nike will gradually lose its brand cohesion (Kim 2016). Because it has changed the original intention of creating Air Jordan. The culture and spirit of the brand has been weakened. As a result, they will even lose the old faithful followers who love sports.

To sum up, the gaming business concept has been used widely in marketing. Although the huge commercial value will be brought to the brand by enhancing the customer loyalty and retention. The people’s purchase desire will be raised. Finally the market will be broadened. But some crucial risk will also be brought to the brand. The client may lose the dependence on the brand. So that the brand culture is no longer symbolic and representative.

Gamification and education

#ALM201

Nowadays, the concept of Gamification is widely used in all walks of life, especially in the education industry. According to Da Rocha Seixas (2015), the game function is used in non game applications, and its goal is to increase people’s participation and motivation. Teachers set a specific goal for students. When students reach the goal, they will get the corresponding reward. The reward is usually given through the scoring system. Gamification can make students receive immediate feedback on their progress and recognition of completing the task in class. In addition, it also provides students with more possibilities of participation and classroom motivation. It can be seen that the wide application of Gamification concept in the education industry has brought a positive impact on students. At the same time, the concept of Gamification has brought some disadvantages to the education industry, such as virtual reality. This blog will analyze some advantages and disadvantages of Gamification and education.

The reward mechanism in gamification can enhance students’ interest in learning. Rewards are often tangible or intangible. Most people need to be recognized, and rewards are one of the best ways to show their recognition to others (da Rocha Seixas et al, 2015). For example, in the classroom, when the teacher asks the student a question, if the student gives the correct answer, or is close to the correct answer, the teacher will give an apple or candy as a reward, this way will greatly encourage Students participate in class answering again. At the same time, when other students see that they actively participate in class answering and will have the opportunity to be rewarded by the teacher, they will also actively want to answer the teacher’s questions. At this time, the reward in the hands of the teacher is not only to satisfy the student’s temporary desire for gluttony, but indirectly to be recognized by the teacher. In the inherent thinking of the student, it is only possible to obtain the teacher when he performs very well. Recognition. When all students actively participate in the classroom to answer and think about questions, students are very interested in learning, which undoubtedly indirectly improves students’ enjoyment of learning, thereby improving their grades. This is the responsibility of every teacher and Parents are willing to see the results. It can be seen that the reward mechanism in the concept of gamification can stimulate students’ love and interest in learning, enhance their self-confidence, and benefit their physical and mental health.

It is undeniable that the reward mechanism in gamification also brings some drawbacks to students. If teachers do not have proper organization, it is difficult to maintain and control the atmosphere of the classroom, which may damage the learning process of students (de-Marcos et al. 2016). For example, when every student actively participates in the classroom to answer and wants to be recognised by the teacher, but due to classroom time and discipline constraints, the teacher can only invite very few students at a time to answer the question. However, each class has to have almost 40 students, it is not possible for everyone to have the opportunity to answer the question and thus receive a reward. At this point, students who do not get the chance to answer a question may instantly become upset or angry, which might affect classroom discipline and disrupting the learning of other students. This shows that the reward mechanism in gamification also brings about some negative effects on students’ learning in the classroom.

In summary, the widespread use of gamification concepts in the education sector has, on the one hand, enhanced students’ interest in learning and improved their performance. On the other hand, it may also have some negative impacts on the teaching environment and interfere with the learning atmosphere of the students.

Naughty AR Technology #ALM102

Brief:

Hi, guys. The digital media background of my video is as follows: New technologies have transformed how concepts of ‘reality’ and ‘immersion’ have been traditionally understood. The theme of my video is that viewers can  understand the advantages and disadvantages that AR technology brings to people in the field of beauty, games and education from a balanced perspective.

Before recording this video, I watched some related videos as references. The content and music of these videos inspired me to have countless. However, in the process of searching and watching the videos, I found that the content of these videos about AR technology is not so extensive.  In the early stage, I read academic articles and news reports, and later I shot and made this video.

This video shows the audience some of the advantages and disadvantages of AR technology in the field of beauty, games and education from an objective and balanced perspective. The purpose is that people can understand AR technology is a double-edged sword.

AR technology has become the main trend of modern and future technological development. The three fields involved in the video are the most important parts of people’s daily life for adults and students. I hope that both adults and students can learn how to avoid some dangers brought by AR technology while enjoying the infinite convenience brought by AR technology and they know how to improve the quality of life by AR in my video. In the meantime, they are aware of self-protection and do not indulge in the virtual world. At the same time, we are in the environment of the new Corona virus. I hope that my viewers can use AR technology correctly and actively after watching the video. For example, try on various colour cosmetics at home, have online classes, etc., and viewers continue to follow the development of AR technology through news, social networking and media.

Reflection:

I used Premiere project, Photoshop and illustrator software to make my video. Thanks for Bob’s @BT suggestions on my video.

First of all, the video duration is 6 minutes and 47 seconds. In the first five seconds of this video, I used Photoshop and illustrator to make dynamic pictures as the cover, which echoes the theme, attracts the audience’s attention and arouses the audience’s desire to click on the video.

Secondly, I attach great importance to the video content, adding subtitles and subtitle colour. Volume a: when I face the camera, my voice will appear more realistic and the volume is relatively high, which gives the audience a sense of face-to-face communication. Volume B is my narrative. My voice will be softer and the volume will be lower for some sentences  in the video quoted from academic articles.

1. Since I did not pay much attention to the problem of white balance and face tilt in the last video, which made me amateurish , In  this video, I used Canon g7x2 and some fill lights and tripods for shooting. In the later stage, I used the Luminetri function in premiere project to adjust the colour temperature, colour and exposure degree of the picture.

2. In premiere project, I used different video transition effects for each small video in the video. The purpose is to give the viewer a natural transition of the video effect, and the video content of each segment will not be very abrupt and boring from viewers’ perspective.

3. I set scrolling subtitles and static captions in the video. The aim is that people whose native language is not English can watch the video easily. Secondly, due to the use of a lot of pictures, with the corresponding subtitles, it is convenient for people to read and watch better, giving people a feeling of immersive.

4. For the three body segments in the video, I have added pictures of heart to create a slow-release effect. The reason is that the video takes a long time, and in this way it can better improve the audience’s attention, and also implies the contents of three different video paragraphs.

5. When I used some bloody pictures, I added mosaics to them. Viewers’ comfort is the most important thing.

6. At the point of 1 minute and 0 seconds in the video, I inserted some of my social accounts, so as not to give viewers a boring and rigid feeling.

7. At the beginning of this video, I inserted the fast forward version of the previous video. The purpose is to connect the two videos in series to give the viewer a sense of continuity.

Finally, from the perspective of the background music added to the video, I used five different kinds of music, which were placed in the first 5S, three paragraphs and the end, with audio transition effects added between each segment. As the video takes a long time, I use lighter music, hoping that viewers will not feel bored or even depressed.

Before shooting the video, I searched some videos with high click rate on YouTube as reference, and learned how to adjust the white balance, pay more attention to the texture of the picture, and learn how to add the effect of video transition by watching and consulting some videos and materials.

When I shot the video, my smile was still a little stiff. There are also some incoherent body movements that make the video ineffective. The screen color of post production video is still a little insufficient, I will do better next time.

After shooting three videos, I found that there is a lot more I need to do when make a good video. I should learn to feel and make the video from the perspective of the viewer. I found pleasure in video and post production. When I am free, I will make some interesting videos to share with you.

AR in Beauty Industry

Brief:

The theme I chose was augmented reality. With the continuous development of society, beauty products have become an indispensable part of people’s daily life. In order to highlight the powerful and extensive application of AR technology in people’s daily life and the convenience it brings to people’s life, I chose some advantages brought by AR technology in beauty industry and will introduce its advantages to people via video.

The main purpose of shooting the video is to make an increasing number of people know and use  AR technology, especially the disabled and people living in remote areas. We are now in the adverse impact of the new coronavirus. For example, we cannot go out and socialize normally. People can no longer work, live and study as usual. Tourism, retail, construction and other industries have suffered a storm like economic decline. Many enterprises have closed down or even gone bankrupt due to this detrimental impact.  If people are able to  use AR technology correctly and reasonably, it will bring infinite convenience to people.  Meanwhile, it can ensure that merchants will not be affected by any bad exterior environment.

I hope that my video, the application of AR technology in the beauty industry, can give people some inspiration and reflection, and make individuals pay attention to the development of AR technology. Also, the video  calls for people’ attention of technology and the ability to make good use of  it.

Reflection:

I used premiere project, the software to make my video, and drew some lessons from my last video production.

First of all, starting from the time line, in the first five seconds of this video, Adobe Illustrator was used to make a poster around this theme. The picture in the lower left corner means that you are unkempt at home, and the photo in the upper right corner means that you can use AR virtual makeup at home to be beautiful.标点 The two photos have produced a sharp contrast. The purpose is to attract the viewer’s eye. In the next 7 seconds, the theme is highlighted by video, which arouses the desire of the viewer to watch more.

Secondly, I attach much importance to video content, added subtitles and subtitle color. Volume A: when I face the camera, my voice will appear more real, and the volume is relatively high, which gives the viewer a sense of face-to-face communication. Volume B is my narration. For  some sentences in the video that are quoted from academic articles’ arguments, my voice will sound more gentle and the volume will also be relatively lower.

1. The same text matches different pictures. I set up a scrolling subtitle and a still subtitle in the video. The color of the letter font will become green gradually. The purposes of doing this is as follows.  First of all, my video is not only for people who speak English, but also for people who speak other languages, even some people with physical defects. I hope that any viewer can see or hear me and know what I am talking about. Secondly, with different pictures, it is convenient for people to read and watch better, which provides a kind of immersive feeling. Finally, when people look at the subtitles, the gradual green color can help people relax their eyes.

2. I use the reverse effect in premiere project for every small video transition in the video. The purpose is to give the viewer a natural transition video effect, and the video content of each segment will not be very abrupt.

Finally, from the perspective of the background music added to the video, I used three different kinds of music which are placed at the beginning, in the middle and in the end. The music volume in the beginning section is higher, and the music atmosphere is light and light. The purpose is to create a relaxed and happy feeling ,and to gradually transit to the middle section with the volume from high to low. The background music rhythm of the middle section is the fastest and the music atmosphere is the best. The purpose is to make the viewer not feel bored when watching the video, and the music effect gradually transits to the end section. The music in the end section is relatively slow. The purpose is to give the viewer a sense of relaxation after watching the video.

Before shooting the video, I searched YouTube for some frequently-clicked videos as a reference, and learned some detailed skills on how to use premiere project to set the volume increasing ,and to create slowing effect from some video tutorials. But I still didn’t master the light when I was shooting the video. I wasn’t able to buy the fill light, so I tried to put three desk lamps behind the screen. The light still didn’t hit my face evenly. Also,  I need to improve my spoken English. When I shot the video, I basically tilted my head on the screen because of my twisted neck. My smile was also a little stiff. There are still some incoherent body movements which make video effect  not good. These problems will be solved next time.

After shooting two videos, I find that a good video cannot do without the story content and video effect. Next time, I will try to conceive a complete video effect, and then realise it step by step. In shooting video  and making video, I learned a lot of shooting skills, such as the importance of the background when shooting, and also learned a lot of software processing skills. I will strive to find a suitable style for myself, and I will make a more perfect video in the future.

Making video #ALM102

Assessment 1: Marking Criteria

My name is Cecilia and I come from China. I am studying in Deakin College and doing diploma of communication. Next year I am going to study the bachelor of digital media at Deakin University. In this video, I want to introduce myself and talk about my hobbies and daily life. For example, I am going to show the audience my daily routine of playing the pipa which is a four-stringed Chinese musical instrument, cooking and raising cats. Also,  I am a Lego fan. This 140-second video covers myself and everything about my daily life.

During the video recording, I felt nervous a little bit facing the camera and got a stiff face somehow probably because it was the first time recording such video by the expression of A roll and B roll. When I found this problem, I reviewed some shooting skills and camera positions that the teacher told me in class. I tried to add some body movements and smiles when recording the video, so as to make the audience have a sense of screen interaction and also let the audience  feel cordial. I tried to relax in front of the camera as much as possible in order to show my most confident side. Meanwhile, I seriously considered how to enrich the expression and content of the video, so that the audience will not be bored.

I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit videos. I have encountered some difficulties in editing videos, because this is my first time using the software. Fortunately, I have overcome these difficulties through some videos and books. During the editing process, I showed the audience volume A (my own speech) together with volume B (my video) many times, so that the audience could listen to the sound while watch the changing video without feeling bored.

Secondly, I added some effects to each video segment that needs transition, which made each segment of the video connect more naturally. At the same time, I added some subtitles and background music to the video with a purpose that the audience can watch the video more easily without getting bored. I chose fast-paced music as the background music, hoping that the audience can be inspired and happy when watching the video with music rhythm.

In a word, shooting video and making video are very interesting . Although there will be some difficulties, we should actively face and solve them. Then, we are able to have a good result. For me, I have learned a lot of video shooting skills and video production experience, such as how to relax in front of the camera, and video splicing, Video colour matching, video transition and so on.  This  precious learning experience is of great importance to me. In the meantime, I will constantly reflect and accumulate more experience. I will present a new self in the next video. I sincerely hope that you in front of the screen can enjoy my shooting and my first video.
