These two advertising video from two different country, China and Australia. These two videos show us two differences in culture and values in different countries. More specifically, using the data from Hofstede Insights, individualism (90 vs 20) and Indulgence (71 vs 24) will be talked in this blog.

In my opinion, Australians are more inclined to express a positive attitude towards life, such as laughing in advertisements. In contrast, Chinese people still think about completing work and learning tasks during leisure time. This is obviously An expression that suppresses one’s own performance and makes viewers lack the ease and joy when watching advertisements.
The topic of this blog is to illustrate the benefits and limitations are involved in using digital media to facilitate student learning and engagement. The topic will be divided into four parts. The first part is to introduce my own understanding of the term digital media. After reading a journal article of Sora Park, I was able to understand the definition of digital media and briefly explain it in simplify it to enlighten the mind of the audience and reflect the role of digital media in the modern lifestyle of people The second part mainly introduces the benefits of digital media in students studies, the third part introduces some restrictions and downsides on students use of digital media, the last part is I utilize some academic materials and summarised my own views on the benefits and restrictions of students’ use of digital media.
Before I created my blog I made sure that I have a fully edited script that contains useful information on how to fully understand the term digital media to avoid mistakes on my statements . And through my preparation process I was able to define digital media as the first hand and major source of information , entertainment and effective tool for communication for 21st century.
Thus, I mainly highlighted the benefits and limitations of digital media in the learning process of students. I have read one academic article and two academic journal articles from Deakin library. The first one is a journal article from Calvert. The purpose is mainly to study and investigate and draw a conclusion: Students’ learning with digital media can improve their interest in learning, and teachers’ teaching with digital media can not only improve the quality of teaching, but also draw the attention of students by making the learning process more interactive, creative and innovative, Digital media help teachers and students to have effective communication and promote a harmonious relationship between teachers and students. This academic journal article demonstrates my point of view better.And for the limitations and drawbacks , I read two journal articles comes from the research of Calvert and Davis that comes up with a common conclusion: with the rapid development and strong attraction of digital media, students will rely more on digital media in learning, and will gradually reduce their time of enhancing their critical thinking skills, they will spend more time on things that have nothing to do with learning, so they will lose their old age Teacher’s trust and confidence, reading these two academic articles can help me to clarify my point of view, and more persuasive and authentic.
In audio production, I added a 10 seconds music clip at the beginning and end part of the audio . The name of the music is up the career ladder. This is a music creation license, so I can choose this music as the beginning and end of my audio. The reason for choosing this song is because it has a happy and upbeat rhythm. When the audience listens to my audio, they will not I feel tedious and sleepy, and I registered my own account on Soundcloud, filled in my personal information and changed my profile picture to my most presentable photo, this is a crucial step, because I need to let my audience better understand and familiarise my information.
While making podcast, I also encountered some challenges, but in the end I overcame them and learned more skills. For example, I don’t know how to convert the recording on the mobile phone into MP3 format and how to transfer it to the computer. Then I used Google’s online search function and asked for help from my classmates. Finally, I found that I could download the software for editing on the mobile app and successfully transfer the format and audio to the computer. In fact, this is the first time that I used Adobe Premiere Pro, a computer software for audio editing. At last, I successfully solved the problem and learned how to edit and insert audio, which laid a solid foundation for my future media courses.
This is the first but unforgettable experience in creating podcasts and produced audio and I’ve learned a lot about how to use adobe and other apps to create a wonderful digital audio.

Every creature in the world has its own identity. Nowadays, social network is an indispensable part of people’s life. In using some social media software, everyone is required to create their unique information and exclusive features similar to ID to show themselves to the public, one of the main purpose is to find old friends at the same time meet new friends conveniently. In other words, this information can better introduce a person online identity accordingly. (Alice E, 2013, p355-359).
Driven by the development of media and network, people can still engage in face-to-face communication by using some special apps like Face time, reading e-books, do online shopping or even scheduling a doctor appointment and getting all kinds of latest information and knowledge by creating online identity.
In order to protect the privacy of users and the security of others, some social media software and online platforms require to use real personal information, names and telephone number, complete address and security questions to locate or track the user identity and ensure its security in the act of cybercrimes like hacking to easily retrieve the information of users. (Alice E, 2013，p357). Such as Wechat, Instagram and Alipay.
For example, I am originally a native Chinese, that has a hobby of playing classical instruments. Now I am studying Deakin University in Melbourne, and I keep two lovely cats. I fond of cats as they are very adorable and sweet , and I am quite fascinated in some interesting and modern things such as fashion and cosmetics. So the first thing I did when I use Twitter is to create an online identity, fill in some of my personal information that can best describe my personality.
we can choose some lovely and charming photo as the profile background on my twitter page. No matter if they are strangers or my followers, they can see the background since it is open to public. So I wish they can get to know me at the first time.
In fact, the most interesting function of twitter is you can randomly see tweets from people across the globe especially for those who you followed. Friends will share their interesting photos, such as cats and dogs, delicious food and so on.I often post some photos of my cat on twitter, and retweet some interesting pictures and articles on Tweeter such as breeding experience of cats. I’ve been following some fashion bloggers who tweet about make-up or dress matching.I hope strangers can watch my twitter homepage and know some of my hobbies, basic information and daily life which is the benefit of online identity.
In China, the most popular and widely uses social media platform is WeChat , and it is compatible for all mobile brands and models, and all citizen can download it for free. ( Mao C,2014). When I first use the WeChat application, I was required to input some personal information such as full birth name, my region, gender, age and birthdate. But I can use any name I like as my nickname, and it will be displayed on my profile, In addition, I choose one of my favourite self-portraits as my profile picture, which is very fun and convenient for my friends to find me. WeChat also provides users with unique WeChat QR Code which is a type of matrix barcode that identify your profile automatically which is convenient for users to search and add me on their friend list. Apart from that there is a status bar, in which people can write their feelings and insights depending on their mood and emotions on a specific day, my status bar is three numbers, which is very memorable for me. It means my baby cat’s birthday.It is quite secure but fun at one hand since we can choose some lovely and charming photo as the profile background of my WeChat album.These interesting little settings shorten the distance between each other.
No matter if they are strangers or WeChat friends, they can see the background since it is open to public. so I want to show the most optimistic and positive side of me. In fact, the most interesting function of WeChat is browse on moments. Friends will share their interesting photos, such as their mood, fitness life, beautiful scenery and forward some meaningful articles. You can also set the time in making your pictures visible to the public. I often chat with my parents and old friends in China on WeChat, share their interesting things with each other.
When I see some wonderful pictures or articles from my friends WeChat moments , I will give that a thumbs-up or leave some positive comments , When they receive my comments, they will also response with some details , which makes me feel that distance is not a problem and technology, online identity can still bring us all together.
It is an exciting experience for me to create my own social media page and write some blogs and post some interesting photos that can catch the attention of other social media user.
At first, It is a challenge for me to create a blog using English language since I am still on the process of enhancing my foreign language skills since I am a native Chinese speaker. For example, it’s a challenge for me to find the exact picture that is catchy for everyone and I am having difficulties in using the right terms and vocabulary to create caption of the picture. So I made the homepage more creative and attractive and connect the two social media links for the convenience of the readers and teachers. The title of the blog is simple and clear. I shared all the resources. This process help me to learn more things about this major and to improve myself to be more knowledgeable in my future career path. I choose my English name and my personal photo as an avatar and wrote a profile and short introduction of myself for my friends to find me. I put the first chapter picture on my blog. It is a landscape photo and wish reader can have a good mood when they see my blog.
I use some creative idea and it was my first time to post a picture and short description of characteristics and behavior of a hedgehog in twitter and added some photos and reference. I also extra careful about the copyright issue. I started to get used to the workaround of twitter, I follow some of my classmates and we tweet and give comments on our post.
I wrote my hobbies and identities in my Twitter profile and used my own photos as avatars. I think this is more real and I can meet more like-minded friends.
When I create about.me account, I added a link of my favorite song in my homepage which is a very famous Spanish song entitled “ Despacito” so when reader open it they can relax
to the beat of the song. I also added some details about some of my favorite hobbies and also I change the color of the homepage and added some personal information about myself. I was certainly a fun experience for me. I was also ecstatic to share the pictures of my two cats which is a ragdoll breed.
Through these four weeks of study, I have learned how to make social software, how to share interesting information and i have learned how to make social software, how to share interesting information, and have a certain understanding of copyright and other academic knowledge which is a very important and interesting subject.
